Given the ceaseless health crises brought on by combustion worldwide, the need for solution-driven innovations has never been more urgent.
The world is struggling to curtail the current health crisis brought about by smoking and the times call for an innovative solution now more than ever. With 2.4 million adults who smoke in Czechia, smoking is one of the leading causes of premature death due to smoking-related diseases. Traditional efforts have been put in place to try and reduce the rate of smoking, but these measures have been inadequate to stem the rising tide of smoking-related mortality.
A new report developed by international and local experts explores the game-changing impact that Tobacco Harm Reduction (THR) can have. This impact can be achieved when THR policies are implemented—including the use of less harmful alternatives for nicotine delivery, such as vapes and heated tobacco products—along with improved cessation services and treatments for lung cancer. The report states that these combined effects could save as many as 280,000 deaths by 2060.
In their progressiveness of approach to integrating THR into their national policies, Czechia is well-positioned to not only improve its citizens’ health outcomes but also to provide a model for other countries facing similar challenges. The report has investigated in detail the data supporting that vision and the strategic actions needed to turn it into reality— creating a detailed roadmap towards reducing harm from tobacco and saving lives.
